Captain Joseph Collazo began his law enforcement career with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in August 2007 as a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Uniform Road Patrol Division. Demonstrating strong tactical insight and leadership potential early on, he joined the agency’s SWAT Team in 2009, where he served as an Operator for twelve years.
In 2010, Captain Collazo transitioned to the Special Investigations Division (SID), serving as an undercover Narcotics Detective. His investigative experience expanded further in January 2014 when he was selected to join the Criminal Investigations Division as a Detective in the General Crimes Unit.
Promoted to the rank of Sergeant in November 2014, Captain Collazo held supervisory roles across several key divisions, including Uniform Road Patrol, Special Investigations, and Criminal Investigations. His broad experience and dedication to public service led to his promotion to Lieutenant in July 2021, where he served as a Watch Commander in the Uniform Road Patrol Division.
In 2022, he transferred to the Community Operations Division, overseeing multiple units including Community Policing, School Resource Officers, School Crossing Guards, Media Relations, Animal Services, and the Behavioral Health Unit.
In 2025, Joseph Collazo was promoted to the rank of Captain and now leads the Uniform Road Patrol Division. His leadership reflects a steadfast commitment to public safety, operational excellence, and the development of officers under his command.
Captain Collazo has also demonstrated his commitment to the community by volunteering his time. He actively coaches youth sports and participates in the youth programs at the Stuart 10th Street Community Center. As a proud Martin County native, Captain Collazo remains dedicated to serving and protecting his community with unwavering commitment and integrity.
